Chocolate Peppermint Bark

Simple, stress-free holiday treat that is ready in under 10 minutes. Who doesn’t like easy recipes? With all the holiday rush and tons of  things to care off before the holidays, I have literally no patience to stand in the kitchen and make elaborate treats.

This was back in December, 2002 when I first visited Disney world. I still remember how beautifully the whole town was decorated for the holidays. I tried so many new dishes and treats, and this one chocolate peppermint bark was one such treat I couldn’t resist eating. I bought some with me when we came back from our trip.

Very soon all the chocolate peppermint bark disappeared. It was not just me who devoured this peppermint bark, but more my 5 year old son who loves white chocolate. I decided I have to try this recipe, and I am glad I did.

This chocolate peppermint bark is so darn easy, even my teen daughter can now make this without any fuss. Easily customizable this chocolate peppermint bark is a must try.

MILK, DARK OR WHITE CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK

Chocolate peppermint bark can be made with just the milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate. You can also make a two-layer chocolate bark, by using either of the chocolate combinations for more decadent flavor.

I make chocolate peppermint bark using either just one chocolate or a combination of chocolates. Here are some of my family favorites:

MILK CHOCOLATE

DARK CHOCOLATE

WHITE CHOCOLATE

DARK CHOCOLATE & WHITE CHOCOLATE

PEPPERMINT CANDY OR SOFT PEPPERMINTS

You can use broken candy canes  or soft peppermints for this recipe. I prefer the soft peppermints they just kind of melt in your mouth. But if you like a bite go for peppermint candy, I think it adds a nice texture to the chocolate bark.

WHAT FLAVORS TO USE FOR CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK

The one flavor I like to use is PEPPERMINT EXTRACT. Add 1-2 tsp of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate for the additional layer of peppermint flavoring. However, flavoring is totally optional.

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK

One of the easiest recipe to make, cost effective and heavenly in taste. Pick your favorite chocolate, using a double boiler, melt the chocolate. Once chocolate is completed melted, pour this melted chocolate onto a cookie sheet, spread the chocolate with a spatula. Add crushed peppermint candy and gently press it using back of the spoon.

Let the chocolate firm up completely. Once firm, break the bark into desired pieces and store it in an air-tight container in a refrigerator.

Bark can be made upto 7 days ahead. Store it in an air-tight container refrigerated. You can also package these chocolate peppermint bark in a treat bags and tie with a ribbon. Keep the packages in an air-tight container refrigerated until gifting.
